There are plenty of other books on Costa Rica. All contain abundant facts and information to help potential expatriates.
What sets this book apart is that it is NOT TRYING TO SELL YOU ANYTHING. I do not stand to profit in any way from you or anyone else moving here. I am free to tell the truth as I see it. I don’t sell or rent real estate. I am not an attorney. I am not a tour guide. I don’t own a hotel or a restaurant or get kickbacks from any business.
There are hundreds and hundreds of books on “Costa Rica Retirement” and “Costa Rica Living.” These books are often quite accurate as far as they go, but there are subjects they gloss over or omit completely that are VERY IMPORTANT to those considering actually LIVING here. This book will not shy away from presenting the negatives along with the positives.
Consider this book a companion piece to whatever magazines, books and websites you may read as you contemplate visiting or possibly living in Costa Rica. You should realize, most of all, that you are NOT in the United States or Canada. A lot of what you take for granted just does not apply, from easily purchased kitty litter to the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Know how deep the water is before diving in the pond head first.
IMPORTANT: I lived in Costa Rica for eleven years, and I liked it there. It was a good place for me. It may be a good place for you, or it may NOT be. Read on and make your decision.
I hope this book will help you to decide whether Costa Rica is right for YOU.
Note: This book contains a large amount of the author’s analysis and personal opinions along with factual information. But even “factual” information can change, so it is best to take everything you read here with the proverbial “grain of salt.”
